The German band The Mystery brings melodic metal with a female vocalist in the front. In the gothic metal scene it’s very common to have a female singer but in the melodic metal scene there isn’t often one. Korry Schadwell is a fine female singer without a typical gothic voice. Her voice has a raw sensitivity just like Doro.  And strange but true their music sounds like Doro’s previous band Warlock. Two songs “My Heart Lies Bleeding” and title song “Soulcatcher” are strongly influenced by Warlock during the period of the “Triumph And Agony” album. But the band brings enough variation throughout their fifteen songs. It’s the first album with Korry Schadwell as lead vocalist and it’s their fifth album as a band. The most commercial song on this new album is “Judas Betrayed” that has been released on video as well. There’s nothing wrong with this album. Everything is in the right proportions and musically they have a solid base. But it’s sometimes to clean without many surprises. It’s no shocking world release but nice listening to The Mystery.

70/100
