Band : Every Time I Die Formed in 1998, Buffalo (New York) based Metalcore band Everytime I die has gone through several changes since its conception by brothers Keith (lead vocals) and Jordan (guitar) Buckley. The only constant in the band have in fact been the two brothers, their musical style, and second guitarist Andy Williams. Until recently, there was also drummer Mike “Fatboy” Novak (whom had replaced original drummer Sean Hughes back in 1998), but he left the band in June of last due to “personal conflicts”, and has since been replaced by Ryan “Legs” Leger (from Toronto, Canada, he used to play with the likes of The Salads, Skye Sweetham, Dead And Divine and Hardcore legends Oh The Humanity). Apparently this band has a problem keeping its bassists, five guys having come and gone (plus an additional two which were hired only for touring) before Josh Newton took the position in 2007. Releasing their 2000 Burial Plot Bidding War EP through Goodfellow Records (re-isssued in 2003), the band would switch to Ferret Records, whom would release the band’s following 4 full-lengths [2001’s debut album Last Night In Town (re-issued in 2004 with new artwork), 2003’s Hot Damn!, 2005’s Gutter Phenomenon (re-issued with bonus DVD in 2005, the album made #71 on the US charts), and 2007’s The Big Dirty (made it to #41 in the US charts, and a special edition was issued with bonus DVD)] Over the years, EID has been fortunate to tour with the biggies in the bizz: a 2002 tour with Killswitch Engage, a 2003 tour with Jackass star Steve-O, a participation in the 2006 Warped Tour, Atreyu’s 2006 World Championship Tour (in alliance with Chiodos & From First To Last), 2007’s Sounds Of the Underground tour and a tour with Underoath, a tour with Killswitch Engage, Dillinger Escape, and Plan Parkway Drive in January-February 2008, headlining the Take Action Tour (also featured August Burns Red, From First To Last, The Bled, and The Human Abstract), and eventually also the complete Warped Tour 2008! During 2006 the band’s track “The New Black” made the mainstream when it was featured as a bonus track in Guitar Hero 2 as well as in the PlayStation 3 game MotorStorm. On Halloween 2007, the band was allowed to perform the song “We’rewolf” live on the ABC (one of the major tv-networks in the US)late night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live. Stylistically, EID blend Hardcore Punk with Metalcore and season it with a bit of Southern Metal, while keeping things on the aggressive side. The whole is quite enjoyable if you’re into the more brutal kinds of music! What with the Southern element and the fact that the guys use a somewhat repatitive-progressive build up in their (mostly rather short) songs, should come appealing to fans of Stoner Metal…and even Sludge, why not! Vocals are for the most part screamed aggressive, but also resonably frequently clean. When I went to check their MySpace page (myspace.com/everytimeidie), the band had just posted the new album in its entirety, alongside several tracks off their earlier releases, so there’s material enough for you to sample and enjoy! Enough to either convince of deter to of the band’s qualities. I dunno why, but along the way while taking this review down, I was occasionally reminded of Coalesce as a comparison. Hum…check it out for yourself! If you’re into checking out bands in a live environment, be adviced that Every Time I Die, along with Killswitch Engaged and In Flames, will be part of the 2009 European Taste Of Chaos Tour, which will be hitting our continent at the end of November (Antwerp’s Trix venue on December 4th)! Personally, I’m in love again! Took some time to get hooked at first, but now I’m completely over my head… 98/100 Tony. |
