Band : Black Sabbath Digitally remastered and expanded two CD deluxe edition of the 1970 debut album from the British hardrock legends including a bonus disc containing nine previously unreleased tracks and with liner nnotes of David Wells. Black Sabbath, the album, is often regarded as one of the first Heavy Metal full length releases. The album reached #8 on the UK Album Chart. Following its US release in May 1970 by Warner Bros.Records, the album reached #23 on the Billboard 200, where it remained for over a year, selling a million copies. (Sanctuary). “We just wanted to be heavier than everybody else” (Geezer Butler) Let me start with saying that Black Sabbath is one of my absolute favourite bands and that Black Sabbath is one of my favourite albums of all time. I still become amazed when I listen to it. Every song on this record is a fucking opus, No other CD truly defines this band better than their self-titled debut. The sound quality is perfect for disc 1 which also includes “Evil Woman” which for years was unavailable in the USA. Disc 2 is what collectors will really want this for. This has outtakes of “Black Sabbath”, “The Wizard” and “Behind The Wall of Sleep”. This also has an alternative version of “Evil Woman” which is quite interesting but it is quickly obvious why the original version was picked. So the nine extra tracks here are almost identical musically to their previously released counterparts. Aside from adding “Wicked World” that originally only featured on the US release, and a different version of “Evil Woman” there's not a lot to draw the crowds. If you don't have it already, you are obviously missing a vital part of music. As stated above, one of the milestones in the history of rock and entirely necessary for your record collection. 1.
