Band : GNOD Very broad-minded artists and freaks that are looking for new ways to liberate their artistic imagination will love this GNOD. GNOD is an experimental UK band, playing mostly spacey free rock with elements of kraut, trance and drone infiltrating their sound. Overall, the material (2 CDR’s) these tripped out bunch sent me is very unusual and demands your attention throughout. I don’t know which dope these Manchester bunch are hooked on, but they take the listener and the world on a mind-bending trip to inner-space. They have several splits, handmade cdrs and seven inches and, by my count, one full-length. Despite the harsh experimental nature of the music, there is a hidden beauty behind it all, one that becomes much more apparent with successive listens. That said, the repetitive structures and "riffs" do build up into a fairly intense hypnotic sound, especially coupled with several layers of guitar, synth and noise textures washing about in the background. This material keeps the ears busy with squeaks, drones, trills, farts, clangs, bangs, and even an occasional spiralling eastern melody. This is for weirdo Circle meets The Residents meets Sun Ra meets Aphrodites Child meets Sabers meets Spacemen 3 connoisseurs exclusively; you know who you are! All in all, a captivating, difficult and very original band. Please if you want to have an idea check some of their weird experimental compositions out at http://www.myspace.com/gnodgnod. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Cosmicmasseur.
