Band: Nervecell An extreme Metal act hailing from Dubai, United Arab Emirates? Why not?!
As a matter of fact, the Arab countries do hose several (acceptable) Metal bands, but it seems somewhat contradictious, doesn’t it. However, it does not mean that those bands can’t play. Or that there isn’t an audience out there… Anyway, Nervecell gained some international fame with their 2004-EP Human Chaos, followed by touring the globe (with session drummer Gavin Ward from Power Quest / Bolt Thrower-fame, by the way). They also played in support of Machine Head and Sepultura, and later they did even headline some festivals (in Egypt and Australia), they performed on stage with bands as Cradle Of Filth, Motörhead, Kreator and Immortal, and Nervecell did also play on festivals as Wacken Open Air, With Full Force and Rock Am Ring. Preaching Venom was mixed at the famous Polish Hertz Studio by Wojtek and Slawek Wieslawski (Vesania, Dissenter, Crionics, Vader, Deivos a.o.) and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music (Ulcerate, Aborted, Neuraxis, The Funeral Pyre etc). The album lasts for forty five minutes and brings rhythmic and up-tempo Death Metal with a Thrash Metal edge and a Deathcore-attitude. It isn’t the most renewing album, but Nervecell succeed to combine elements from different scenes (more specific: especially the American and, in a more modest way, the European ones) without just copying one of them. It might sound rather ‘safe’, but one cannot ignore the intention to overpower and to surprise from time to time. The tracks have a certain groove, all of them exhale a spirit of ‘willing-to-convince’ and in a way they do succeed. Except for the lack of originality the whole indeed is a (modest) success. The technical riffs, the intense rhythm section and the brutal grunts are more than average and this album can blow the Arab desert to the moon, I guess. Oh yes, the drums were taken care of by Psycroptic / Blöod Düster / Disseminate / Ruins / The Amenta’s David Haley, and engineered by his brother / Psycroptic-colleague Joe. Recommended to fans of: Morbid Angel, Cryptopsy, Krisiun, Kataklysm, Malevolent Creation etc. Duration: 45:23 minutes. 81/100 Ivan Tibos. |
