What started out being a side project between Black Sun Ensemble guitarist/founder Jesus Acedo and multi-instrumentalist Eric Johnson, Across the Sea of Id: The Way to Eden has become the final collaborative project of new material from Black Sun Ensemble involving Tucson’s Sun Zoom Spark members and their collective, SlowBurn Records. In fact, Across the Sea of Id: The Way to Eden maybe the final Black Sun Ensemble record. After completion of the recording, it remains unclear if Jesus Acedo will choose to continue with music. Because of this, Across the Sea of Id may be the capstone of a nearly 25 year career that has created some of the most unique rock music of our time.(camera obscura-bio)

Though not really psych desert rock in the typical sense, Black Sun Ensemble certainly exploit some of the classical conventions of the genre. But there's a lot more going on here than just the drive and whoosh of guitars and percussion.  This band offers an interesting sort of sound whose direction covers a variety of tendencies as progressive rock, world music, folk and psychedelic. The album consists of eleven songs where each cut is basically introduced under a different texture; nevertheless this fact doesn't really make it less interesting to my liking, There's lots of mellowness, which effectively emphasizes tranquil atmosphere and soothing hallucinogenic emotions. Just like me, the music of Jesus is for you who chill yourself when hearing songs filled with transverse violins, sax and sitars, whose sound goes straight to the heart and touches deep inside the soul. Also, the acoustic guitars brought an impeccable contribution to this work.

I would also like to tell that fans of Yawning Man, Tuatura, King Crimson and Djam Karet will be hardly indifferent to Black Sun Ensemble.
