Band : False Icons Album Title : God Complex Label : Megaforce Records – 13 Planet Records Distributor : Suburban Records Release Date : 11/11/2008 Release : CD False Icons is the new project of rock veteran John Bechdel, the keyboard player of bands like Ministry, Killing Joke and Fear Factory. Bechdel takes care of both vocals and lead guitar this time and has gathered a group of talented musicians. This quartet all have different musical backgrounds and that makes the band very versatile. Eleven tracks give you the time to really get into the right mood for the music. With good recordings the dark sounds of “God Complex” are perfectly balanced and makes sure the music doesn’t get boring. With both strong guitars and drums and soft vocals and synthesizers it doesn’t sound as rough as Ministry but also not too soft. This album creates an atmosphere of a bleak mechanical society. But aside from the futuristic aspects of the album False Icons can lean on so many influences such as Frank Tovey, David Byrne, Killing Joke and even The Beatles. These bands might have left their mark on the music of False Icons but this band from Pennsylvania is without a doubt in a league of their own. Listening to the band's self titled anthem “False Icons” and you hear a song about things to watch out for in our daily lives and in the future. It’s a band to watch out for in the world of progressive music. 80/100 Guido Claes. |
