Review : CD
“Dark Horse” is the sixth studio album of the Canadian post-grunge band Nickelback and the follow-up for the huge success album “All The Right Reasons”, that was released in 2005 and in these download times still managed to sell 11 million copies worldwide.
So why change the recipe if everyone appreciates it that way?
And so once again, singer Chad Kroeger, bass player Mike Kroeger, guitar player Ryan Peake and drummer Daniel Adair achieved to fulfill the high expectations and composed an excellent album with the typical Nickelback-ingredients, being the combination of heavy rock songs and relax power ballads, all with soaring and utterly catchy refrains.
The grinding rockers and fist-pumping anthems contain a lot of drive, energy and dynamics, while the ballads provide a melodic flow.
“Dark Horse” contains 11 songs, has a playing time of 43 minutes and the production was done by Mutt Lange (for instance AC/DC, Def Leppard, Foreigner, Bryan Adams, Shania Twain).
Highlights are the opening track and second single "Something In Your Mouth", “Burn It To The Ground”, the first single “Gotta Be Somebody”, "Next Go Round", “S.E.X.” and ballads like “I’d Come For You”, “Never Gonna Be Alone” and the swelling next single candidate “If Today Was Your Last Day”.
And Nickelback still is a band that keeps selling a lot, with already more than a million copies of “Dark Horse” sold in not even a month time.
Undoubtedly an absolute top band in the post-grunge genre with more than 27 million albums sold worldwide.
But when will we see Nickelback in Belgium or The Netherlands again or are they planning to keep on touring in the Northern American continent?
85/100
