Band : Octane Gypsy Album Title : Tough Luck Mile Label : Own Release Distributor : Own Release Release Date : 17/10/2008 Release : CD This is the first EP by a very young American band Octane Gypsy. The band is fronted by female vocalist Eleanor Goldfield, who in all honesty is one of the worst female singers I’ve ever heard. Looking fresh out of high school, vocally Goldfield tries to sound like Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders. The difference between her and Hynde is that Hynde can carry a tune and Goldfield surely can’t. There’s absolutely not a single redeeming quality about her voice and she should be embarrassed for the deplorable version of “Honky Tonk Women”. Every time I here that musical classic I’m going to remember how badly she butchered it. As for the song writing and musicianship for the rest of this four pieces EP it’s all below minimum wage demo quality. They try to bring a mix of Slash-style leads and bluesy pipes but their attempt to classic rock is really awful. Octane Gypsy combines classic rock and traditional blues, then mixes in powerhouse vocals to form a sound that is heavy, huge and a whole lot of rock 'n' roll but the worst ever. If there is one saving grace it’s that the EP only has four songs. 60/100 Guido Claes. |
