Germany is apparrently a country where the Rockabilly and Psychobilly scenes thrive. Proof of that comes with the fact that two record labels (the other being People Like You) are capable of making a living off the release of albums of both several German and international acts. In fact, German acts are frequently added to their roster.

From Staubing in the Bayern Province comes Out Of Luck, a new band formed in 2007 when Frantic Flintstones’s upright bass player & lead singer Karl CloeyK. (other acts he’s known from include Vegas, The Lonesome Dragstrippers, Shark Soup and The Flames) joined forces with The BuckaneersFlo The Judge (guitar & backing vocals) and Beppo The Buckaneer (drums). Their music is a wild mixture of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Psychobilly (the twang and reverb on the guitar even gives it some occasional Surf feelings), Blues and Country, played with the energy usually found in Punk Rock bands!

To get a taste of Out Of Luck music and be lost to them with eternal devotion, one needs only listen to the three songs posted at myspace.com/outofluckrnr (there’s also two live videos, which makes for an additional song to be heard). The promo having been sent so late, I have no idea whether the band already did a more elaborate German tour, or was able to tag along on a Eurotour of one of the other bands on the roster (the only info I’ve got comes from the label website and the band’s MySpace – which even together ain’t a lot). All I can tell you for the moment is that gigs in the close future seem to be wide apart and focussed on the band’s local region, so if you happen to be living in that neighborhood, dó go out to see this threesome play live…because going from what I’ve heard and seen their shows must be something not to miss!

When talking about my personal appreciation of this band’s music…well, I gave it away somewhat with the opening of the preevious paragraph, didn’t I? Yeah man, Out Of Luck’s music is highly addictive, and the album móre  than deserves being put into that “Best Albums Of 2008”-list of mine! When put in its sub-genre, it even deserves a top place! The label hails the album as “A must have for friends of bands like Reverend Horton Heat, Guana Batz, and Meteors!”, personally I think anyone with an open mind would be equally infected by the Out Of Luck bug, and get life-long pleasure from it!

98/100
