Band : Serpentina Satelite The cover of this CD almost describes the sound contained within the little silver disc. Its art is of a maelstrom of hallucinogenic flowing colors uplifting a goddess of love, could this be a sky nod to their space kraut rock sound? Although the music isn't exactly groundbreaking, once the CD spins through at the first 9-minute track “Nueva ola” it’s hard to resist not being sucked into its seductively catchy tribal vortex and solid musicianmanship. The second 7-minute titlesong is an awesome punchy guitar driven Hawkwind-blast with a mind-blowing middle piece. Dolmo (lead-rhythm guitar) and Renato Gomez (rhythm-lead guitar/vocals) burn the floor with some seriously severe fuzz-induced mayhem on the next two shorter songs “The last drop” and “Madripoor”. The last 23-minute “Kommune 1” has a acid-trip beginning, kicks into higher spheres, then it goes on for several minutes with nothing but bass and echoes before climaxing into a trippy eargasm… “Kommune 1” shows more krautrock hallmarks: bleeps, heavy guitar/bass riffs, samples of voices, underlying psychedelic freakiness and occasional weirdness. I was quite impressed with this new Peruvian space rock band and look forward to the next CD. Great stuff! 89/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
