Review : CD

Impressive, hard hitting big chorus, big riffing melodic rock music and America’s Sixty 8 hit all the right chords in a debut album that is refreshingly straight forward in belting out superb catchy tunes. Fronted by Tryg, a powerful David Coverdale/Sebastian Bach sound-a-like, Sixty 8 unravel a rich source of influences from the power glam of Skid Row/Vain to the retro 80s/90s of say Whitesnake/Nightranger and Dokken and perhaps Alice In Chains. There’s also a sprinkling of metallic tinged crunchiness in the form of Black Label Society certainly some of the riffs and solos of Kurt Schwartz and James Lee Humes are decidedly heavy and intricate.

Tryg only seeks to impress, especially on the ballads “Confessions” and “All she’s ever known” throughout supported more than ably by a group of musicians who ooze plenty of melodic rock class. Recommendable tracks are “Blood red sky” and “The race goes on”, which are great in your face rockers. The irresistible songs “Alone”  and “Over” have great rhythm guitar grooves and vocal lines. The mid-tempo rockers “Killing time” and “Interactive” are also among the album highlights.

All in all a top notch release from a band we’ll be hearing a lot more from.
