Besides kraut rock bands such as Eloy, Amon Duul II, Guru Guru, Embryo,… other useful comparisons would include Focus, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, Santana, ELP, Nucleus, Herbie Hancock...

CD2-opener “Jazzvibe explorers” is an incredible, relentless dynamo of progressive energy, while CD1-opener “Free spirits” builds beautifully to a climactic ending. In between those other jam improves such as “Heliopolis” (14.46), “Medecine Men” (8.01), “Black Viking” (21.05), “Ur Whales” (11.17) you’ll get a taste of all the different components/styles/codes (psychedelic, fusion, cool groove, latin swing, blues and jazz) to what the German jamming musical experience is all about.... True, some of the slower tunes (“Awaking” and “Long ago”) tend to drag, but never long enough to spoil the overall listening experience... How you deal with the lack of real song material is up to you, but it's never less than interesting.

Elephant Moon is far too lengthy and extreme and at times my mind wandered but should be worth your attention if the genres tickle you....
