Band : The Carburetors Funny…although the review I read on this release in a certain Dutch top magazine gives everything but praise, even goin’ as far as calling the 13 songs on the album…and I’m sorry if something gets lost in the translation…”…13 (in a dozen) nondescript tunes in the Peter Pan Motör/DC vein which don’t make the world any more beautiful…”, I’ve personally had great fun listening to this Oslo based Norwegian band’s third album! I ain’t sure when it all exactly started for this quintet, but I dó know they had a first 7-inch single in 2001. Their 2004 debut album Pain Is Temporary, Glory Is Forever immediately made an impact on the Norwegian scene thanks to the clip for single “Burnout” being heavily rotated on their country’s national TV. Things moved even better for the band’s 2006 sophomore album Loud Enough To Raise The Dead, as it landed the Rockin’ fivesome [consisting of lead singer Eddie Guz (whom also happens to be the frontman of Norwegian collegues Chrome Division), guitarists Kai Kidd and Stian Krogh, bassist King O’Men, and drummer Chris Nitro] support slots in Norwegian gigs of Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Mötley Crüe, Nightwish and Rose Tattoo. Not surprisingly, the band was noted by record labels out of the strict Norwegian scene, and the guys are now signed to the European division of Bodog Music, definitely not a smàll label, and for certain they wíll help the band on their conquest of the rest of the Europe! Rock ‘n’ Roll Forever may be the first album by the band to make it out of Norway, but it’ll definitely not be the last! In the last couple of years there’s actually a growing scene for their kind of energetisized Garage Rock. As mentioned above, you’ll hear straight-forward riffing in the AC/DC vein, but really the focus is on that Hard/ Garage Rock ‘n’ Roll part of the band’s music! The Peter Pan Speedrock connection is made solely due to the fact that this band is one of the biggest in the Dutch Garage Rock scene, and the Motörhead connection is made only because singer Eddie Guz has a somewhat hoarse voice…which don’t even resemble Lemmy’s, if you’re gonna be honest about things! In fact, I wonder in how far the above mentioned review was influenced by personal stuff goin’ on in the writer’s personal life! Personally, I have a couple of friends who LIVE for this kind of music…and I’m sure they’re simply gonna éat this up like sweet pastry! And, by the way, that Dutch journalist wasn’t even correct in his data, because with the inclusion of the bonus track (a great R’n’R version of Boney M’s Disco hit “Daddy Cool”) there’s really 14 tracks on the album! This album, by the way, consists of tracks off the first two albums, enhanced with three new (four if you count “Daddy Cool”) ones! Get a taste for the band’s music by surfing to myspace.com/carburetors, where you’ll not only find a fair portion of mp3-files of songs off the album, but also can view three videos for songs off the album. The label states that the band will be setting out on a tour this Winter, so if that is your thing, you might wanna get acqainted with the band thàt way! I hear the band’s energetic live shows are done with loads of pyrotechnics, which border the level of acts such as Kiss…so there’s sure to be explosive stuff to watch! 84/100 Tony. |
