Band : Mangrove I've heard this high-powered heavy stoner blues rock all before, but nevertheless it still sounds good. This young bunch immediately romp into what can be termed as their trademark musical style. Plenty of guitar riffs full of fuzzy bite and the bass which really gives the whole sound a hefty punch. “Pieces of our yestersay”, “River of my soul” and the psychedelic “Back by the mountainside” are enjoyable to listen to, while there are few moments of weakness to be heard. There is no real speed factor here, the band definitely prefer a slower beat so the guitars can take over. This debut titled Endless Skies is performed with groove aplomb and it is all over far too quickly. The overall mix has a decidedly warm sound, with the expected rough edges. With a sound that is both raw but deep, Mangrove carve out some great material that may recall bands like their Swedish neighbours of Dozer, Lowrider, Abramis Brama, Greenleaf, The Awesome Machine,…but Mangrove are by far not as talented as those bands yet.You should have no problem enjoying this if you like the bands mentioned above. I am pretty sure of that cause the debut isn’t too hard to handle, it is pretty easy listening and it’s quite pleasant. I am sure we’ll hear more from these guys very soon. 80/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
