Review: CD
Roger ‘Rogga’ Johansson must be one of the busiest musicians within the Swedish Death Metal scene nowadays. The guy is involved with many other bands and (solo) projects, such as Bone Gnawer (project with also Barney Kam Lee, Ronnie Bjornstrom and Morgan Lie! Debut released a month ago; look out for the upcoming review very soon), Ribspreader, Insision, Carve, Demiurg amongst many others. One of his main projects is Paganizer, responsible for enormous brain damage since last century.
Together with Andreas Carlsson (g; former member of Ribspreader), Patrik Myrén (b) and Matthias Fiebig (d; Carve, Blodsrit, Ribspreader, Portal), Rogga (g, v) recorded Scandinavian Warmachine, an album with sixteen extreme sonic attacks, lasting for about fifty six minutes. In the vein of most former material, this malicious album brings a furious and fiery form of old school-based Blast / War / Death Metal with a clear (read: evident) Swedish approach. The monstrous production and the beasty compositions come with a merciless groove and an unstoppable and pounding rhythm, honouring the scene from twenty years ago. Not renewing, of course, yet performed with pride and elegance!
Highly recommended to fans of Unleashed, Carnage, Edge Of Sanity, Ribspreader, Runemagick, Grave, etc.
