Release date : 24/08/2009
Release : CD

Now 8 years in existence, Copenhagen based Danish Hardcore Sludge Doomsters The Psyke Project come with their 4th studio album and proper debut on Lifeforce Records As you may remember, the band’s previous effort Apnea was originally released in April 2007 by CpH Sound, and then re-issued through Lifeforce in June 2008, resulting in the review I gave the album, posted 11/08/2008.

Which is where you can find all facts about the band known to me at that time! Additional info includes: 1) The guitar playing “Simon” which I mentioned in that review turns out to have Vastrup as a family name, the same as his replacement (Mikkel Vastrup, right!); 2) In the meantime TPP have added one Christian Bonnesen to their line-up as rhythm guitarist; 3) TPP entered Fredman Studios in Gothenburg (Sweden) in November of last year to record their new 10-track effort; 4) On their page at Wikipedia, the band is cited to play “a very harsh and dark kind of Hardcore with influences ranging from Converge and Zoa, to Neurosis and Norma Jean…the main motivation for playing that type of music emerges from the band’s profound love for the dark and brutal sound of Hardcore and the sincerity and honesty in the statements made by many bands in the genre…”; 5) Since the release of Apnea, the Danes have grown to be considered one of the better bands in their genre; 6) At this year’s Roskilde festival, TPP drummer Rasmus Sejersen sat behind the kit for the performance of Danish N°1 Hip Hop Freestyle act Pede B.; 7) TPP recorded their version of Peter Pan Speedrock’s “Heatseeker” for inclusion on a 10-inch tribute to that band, to be issued through Danish vinyl record label What Happened To The Reason For Screaming Records at a later date this year. The idea behind the release being that PPS’s song “Heatseeker” “…very well could be considered as one of thee standout songs of all time…” (sic); 8) Directed and produced by Marius Budu and Michel Winckler of Intense (intensestudios.net), the band now has a video for Dead Storm track “Winter”; and finally…

9) If you are a fan of over-the-top aggressive music interspaced with more atmospheric passages…such as you might expect to hear from such bands as cited TPP’s influences under above point 4, you have évery reason in the world to check these Danes out! If you’re not the kind of music fan to go out and buy albums on the strength of music journalists’ reviews, but need to listen to a band’s music first, check out the 3 songs available at myspace.com/thepsykeproject. But be warned, to hear this band is to fall in love with their music! You’ll want to go get all their albums, which may turn out disappointing in the case of the first 2 ones (as they’re not readily available)!

10) And this really closes off this review: live appearances of the band posted at this moment, put the band on Danish stages only for the first time being…another addition to my personal year-lists!

98/100
