Band: Bone Gnawer It all started last year, when two well-known names joined forces. American growler Kam Barney Lee, known from acts as Mantas and Death, Massacre, Abhorrent Existence, Cadaverizer, HatePlow and others, and Swedish colleague Rogga Johansson - think Ribspreader, Ablaze My Sorrow, Those Who Bring The Torture, Insision, Carve, Edge Of Sanity, Necromicon, … - decided to start up a Horror / Death Metal-project, which would be a computer-recorded one. They started working on Revolting-material (this was how they named the project), but when two friends came involved, things went another direction. With the recruitment of Morgan Lie (Hate Ammo, Auberon / Oberon, Naglfar) and Ronnie Bjornstrom (Carve, Ribspreader, Taedeat, Hate Ammo, Embracing, Those Who Bring The Torture etc), the quartet started to think about continuing Revolting as a real (side-) band instead of just an occasional project. So they decided to change their moniker into Bone Gnawer, which is closer related to the purpose of their existence: cannibalism. Lyrically the album deals with themes about serial killings and eating human flesh, tasting human flesh, devouring human flesh and feasting on human flesh. For the hungry ones amongst us who start salivating when noticing an album’s title as Feast Of Flesh, some titles: Sliced & Diced, Defleshed And Skinned, The Lucky Ones Die First (what a relief!) or Hammer To The Skull (everlasting headache guaranteed). Musically, the band combines elements from each member’s individual or mutual experiences, which brings us to a symbiosis of both Swedish and American (especially Florida-based, of course) Death Metal. The extremely dirty and gore tracks come with a pulverising sound and a groovy approach. As from the beginning, the early nineties school rules, and also the sweet and very tasteful venom of the eighties gets breathed thought the monstrous and acid eardrum attacks. A surplus is the no-nonsense spirit behind every single eruption of sarcastic black humour and morbid irony. The album lacks of modern progressive rhythms or so-called virtuous additions, yet it stands for an uncompromising form of rough straight-forward Death-brutality, so beware! Note: Feast Of Flesh features guest vocals by Horror Metal Prince Killjoy (of The Ravenous / Wurdulak / Amicuss / Necrophagia / Hell Pig / …-fame) and Dopi (from Machetazo, The Bastards, Wicked, The Deadfucks a.o.). Duration: thirty four minutes. 84/100 Ivan Tibos. |
