Band : Fu Manchu Like We Must Obey and Start The Machine, Signs Of Infinite Power is one of those bummer records from a band whose career is now approaching twenty years in existence. Very few of the songs here rank very highly in the vast back catalogue of Fu Manchu music. Very little about this album encourages me into repeat listens. It simply feels adequate at best. All the elements are firmly in place: small one line choruses, monotone vocals by Scott, buzzing guitar riffs, skate harmonies, up tempo songs, infantile lyrics. Signs Of Infinite Power is energetic but despite that, the album suffers from mediocre songwriting. More than three quarters of the album falls into the under four minute mark with a few checking in at less than three. Fu Manchu has essentially been releasing the same album over and over, only upgrading minutely each album with their improved musical skills. It’s a pity, but it’s a fact : after the absolutely monumental groove CD’s like The Action Is Go, In Search Of…, Eatin’ Dust and King Of The Road, Fu Manchu is unable to pull together another album's worth of truly powerful songs. Too bad. 65/100 Cosmicmasseur.
