Band: Glorior Belli The French horde of Glorior Belli did record two full lengths during its almost seven years of existence, this third one not included. Both albums, Lavdate Dominvs (2005) and Manifesting The Raging Beast (2007) were received with honour and glory in the underground scene. The band also hit the road with same-minded colleagues as Corpus Christii (on the Blood Soaked Torment tour), Watain, Merrimack or Inquisition. One year ago, the band signed a deal with sort of reborn label Candlelight Records and the third full length, called Meet Us At The Southern Sign, is the first result of this collaboration. And the album, lasting for fifty minutes, goes on in the vein of the former recordings. Because of the filthy and unpolished sound and grim compositions bands as Khold, late-nineties-Satyricon and Thorns come to mind. The oppressing and ominous song structures and the variation in tempo, which is pounding and powerful and filled with lots of tempo-changes and breaks, come with a sickening approach. Yet still Glorior Belli succeed to inject their hymns with melody. The raw yet pretty technical, sometimes epic riffs exhale a certain old school atmosphere, and in fact the same goes for the suffocating rhythm section and evil vocals. Meet Us At The Southern Sign dwells into chilly, somewhat industrialised spheres, yet composed and performed with intensity and intellectuality, making this album an absolute must for those who are obsessed / possessed by grim Post-Black Metal. 89/100 Ivan Tibos. |
