Band: Lazarus A.D. In the first part of this century, Lazarus A.D. were originally formed as Lazarus, but to avoid legal problems with that moniker - there do / did exist a few other American bands with that name - they did add the ‘A.D.’ Two years ago, the band recorded a first demo tape, which drew attention of several interested labels. However, Lazarus A.D. signed to Metal Blade for the release of the debut album, The Onslaught (43:17 minutes). And as from the very first notes of Last Breath, this band shows its true face (and blood-knuckled fist). This is Thrash with capital T! Every track is energetic, straight-forward and right-in-your-face, built upon an enormous guitar-driven power and a very up-tempo rhythm section. But… (there needed to be a ‘but’, isn’t it?): didn’t I hear it all before in one way or another? This mixture of Bay Area-elements and a groovy sound gets performed with craftsmanship, conviction and pleasure, and all details are worked out very well. And even though the whole isn’t renewing, the members’ play is blameless, which makes this album a think-worthy possibility for fans of Groove / Thrash Metal. 77/100 Ivan Tibos. |
