Review: CD

Even though both former albums were slightly different from each other, both of them had that certain Geïst-sound, and in the case of Galeere, the band’s third full length, there’s no difference. Yes, Galeere has elements that are comparable to Patina (Solistitium, 2005) and Kainsmal (Cold Dimensions, 2006), and at the same time it is another step within Geïst’s history. Galeere consists of five long tracks (between eight and fifteen minutes), but this long average duration won’t disappoint anyone. These (former) members of e.g. Enid, Eismalsott and Lost World Order (formerly known as Spectre Dagon) entered the studio with Markus Stock, one of Germany’s most important names when it comes to dark yet ingenious Metal with an amazing result (going for both the bands / projects he’s involved with, as well as the bands he worked with as producer / engineer). Indeed, Galeere is, just like both former albums, a killer album, coming with a decent sound and splendid artwork. The album progresses, yet without being Progressive, it is ‘underground’ yet with a nice production, and the whole sounds melodic, yet without losing a certain obscure power. And this ‘obscurity’, well, even though both former albums were pretty sinister, this one is the most intensifying and oppressing one to date. The freezing atmosphere is rather old school oriented (think about the so-called second Black Metal-wave – damn, what a stupid way to ‘try-to-define’), but at the same time this album is more open-minded than ever before. Horny stuff!
