Band : Miosis Miosis was founded in Gothenburg, Sweden in the late summer of 2005 consisting of Mikael Mangs Edwardsson (bass), Matt Axelsson (drums), Torin Williams (vocals), Mårten Bergkvist (guitar), and Henrik Von Harten (guitar). The focus of the band is to create music that is both emotional and complex. All the members are fans of melancholic bands like Radiohead and Massive Attack, but also heavy and progressive bands like Tool, The Mars Volta, and Isis. With the poetry of drummer Mattias Axelsson they started to create music and found their own sound early in the process. Miosis is a bruising quintet whose 7-track debut release, Albedo Abduction, can proudly stand right beside the current wave of prog metal discs. Progressive without feeling pompous, epic without feeling strained, Albedo Abduction boasts above-average songwriting and stunning production with crystal clear vocals, and beautifully played and mixed instruments that stand out individually but manage to blend together at the same time, creating an overall sense of oneness. The vocals by Torin are reasonably high without resorting to the genre's high-pitched histrionics. All of the tracks on Albedo Abduction are standouts, but “Once divine” has to be one of my favorite tracks.. Albedo Abduction is not for casual listening; in fact, multiple efforts may be required to fully appreciate it. 86/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
