CD REVIEW Static-X

Band: Static-X

"What the fuck!" was my first reaction. Does this make you curious ...? well it should... because it can mean 2 things. You either dig it or you fucking don't. There is nothing in between. I played it back and forth a couple of times to catch this new Static wave but it simply doesn't happen. There is something about "Cult of Static" that just doesn't feel right. It's like a tsunami of noise that leaves you gasping for air. From the first track "Lunatic" till the last track "Grind2halt" it is a pretty intense ride. But at the end of the ride (11 tacks - 42 minutes) the only 2 songs that really linger in your head are "Lunatic" & "Stingwray".I guess what bothers me the most about the album are the vocals. It just doesn't work for me all this screaming and roaring, except on Stingwray (don't ask me why cos I have no fucking idea).  Lunatic / Hypure / You am I and Skinned kick off very promising but a soon as Wayne starts screaming is makes you wanna kick him in his groin so he starts singing again.

Cult of Static is just "Not meant for me" (Wayne Static on the Queen of the Damned soundtrack). "Shit of Static" would have been more appropriate. And before the diehard fans wanna ripe my spine out and offer me to their God ... no I do not have a death wish... Up yours

This is the sixth studio album released by Static X, who were founded in 1994 in Los Angeles.
The album was produced by  John Travi, who also produced their prevoius studio album "Cannibal".
The album debuted at n° 16 on the Billboard top 200 chart, making it the bands highest charting album since 2001's "Machine", which was their most succesful album.
Is is also their first album not featuring one of the Otsego Songs.
Their style of music is sometimes referred to as "Industrial Metal", since it incorporates elements of industrial music as well as heavy metal.  They themselves often describe it as 'Evil disco'.

Now personally  I must admit I'm not a big fan of all this Nu-metal genre.  Having grown up with old school heavy metal, all this grunting and grawling really puts me of.  Musically it may sound good, but I do like some serious singing, as well as decent lyrics.  Something that this album seems to be lacking.  These guys do have some musical talent I suppose, but it's not my cup of tea, I'm sorry.
