Tony Hernando is one of those guitarists that I’ve always been aware of but had never heard. I knew of Hernando through the music/guitar press and hearing other like-minded guitar aficionados discuss Hernando’s merits as a guitar-slinger.I appreciate his technical ability and, if his knowledge of arrangements and ability to portray genuine emotion was on the same level as his shredded playing ability, then his third album Actual Events would be pretty special. But this doesn't seem to be the case as the arrangements are just too inconsistent to keep my interest for that long. Occasionally, his frenzied parts hit and sometimes it just felt messy.

Actual Events is probably only for fans of Malmsteen-esque Paganini craziness, but any Vai/Jason Becker/McAlpine disciple also could find something of value in the aggressive delivery of these masturbative melodies. Tony Hernando is joined by drumoctopus Mike Terrana.
