Review: CD

This project is named after a (cult) horror movie, directed by Kenneth J. Berton in 1984, and it was formed by the (pretty) Lennon Murphy, a well-known singer-songwriter within the American Popular Music scene. And if I’m not mistaken, she’s best friends right now with Lady Ono???
For the recording of this album, she recruited two guys to help her out: David Elitch from Daughters Of Mara, and multi-Metal-master Jason Suecof, who also took care of the productional duties. Assisted by these two musicians, Lennon recorded this first album under the Devil’s Gift-moniker.
The album Devil’s Gift lasts for forty minutes and differs a lot from Lennon’s former musical achievement. This is the heaviest thing she ever did and the whole might sound as a combination of Emo and Nu Metal, Metalcore, Thrash, Rock and Pop Music (even though the latter has a minor role in this story). It does not surprise me at all, and this somewhat predictable and easy-listening stuff is too catchy to please me whole the time. But I have to add the evolution Lennon’s vocals underwent. Her wide range on ‘clear’ vocals has been improved enormously, and besides her ‘normal’ voice, she also uses an acceptable and impressing grunt from time to time. Indeed, when it comes to the vocals, I’ve heard worse. However, my overall impression isn’t that positive whole the time, unfortunately. Especially the puberty-approach (goes for both compositions and most of the lyrics, I’m afraid) sickens me, but I guess there’s a certain public for this stuff too???
