Review: CD

Mortuus Infradaemoni were formed in May 2005 by former Lunar Aurora (session) drummers Profanatitas (d, b, v) and Nathaniel (g, v). The beginning of 2007 saw the Cold Dimensions-release of Mortuus Infradaemoni’s debut album, Daemon Qui Fecit Terrram, and now, two years after, the second full length gets unleashed with even more ferocity and anger. This album reveals the purest definition of what ‘underground’ might stand for, this music exhales the bleakest, most grim and oppressing atmosphere. Most parts are fast and rather chaotic, but it does not bother, I think. The only remark to make is the sound, which is too primitive. The mixture of the individual instruments is crap, unfortunately, and the whole sometimes sounds too ‘hollow’. Underground, well, I am obsessed by that sound, but sometimes it is too under-produced, like it is in this case. Anyway, as said before this is the only negative remark, because these epic compositions are of the highest order! Even though the nihilistic hymns are mostly fast and rhythmic, they are pretty melodic, and the spirit behind it is evil, hostile, murderous. Imis Avernis is highly recommended to everyone who likes fast, cold, morbid and venomous underground Black Metal. Total running time: one hour.
