After a hiatus of 15 years, most fans of Bay Area trash metal will be pleased to hear that Defiance returns to world stronger and harder than before with it’s new album called The Prophecy.
For you who haven’t heard from them yet, Defiance is a trash metal band from California. They weren’t that well known to the mainstream of metal and rock, but Defiance is known as one of the classic second-tier thrash bands to hail forth from the Bay area trash metal scene.
You can compare them with bands like Testament, but the band moved on to play in a own unique and more progressive thrash style.
But will their return be as epic as they hoped it would be? I give it a 50/50 chance. Although there are cool songs on the album ( e.g. "The War Inside"), most of the songs sound very much the same and at the end of the album, you’re glad it’s over. Something you wouldn’t expect from an album produced by Jeff Waters (Annihilator).
In this era of trash metal bands like Exodus, Testament, Death Angel or Machine Head, Defiance is going to have a difficult time. But I welcome them back and wish them the best of luck.

87/100
