Band : Akron Family Cool. Akron Family is very hard to classify, but the band offers some help by calling it on wikipedia folk-influenced experimental rock. And I think that this will give you a general idea what this fucked up family is all about. Although the songs definitely don't rock, they are never too mellow, soft or cheesy. Akron Family play more or less folk, spiced with some psych (“Set ‘em free”) , afro (“Everyone is guilty”), americana (“River”) and indie edges to it. Although this album might be a tad too soft (many songs are acoustic or semi-acoustic) for the extreme metalheads amongst us, you should realise that the songs simply are well-arranged and accompanied with a good clear production offered to you by a well-skilled band. Songs like “They will appear”, “Creatures” and “Sun will shine” are excellent to shake up with or to play when you've had your share of brutal shit and want to hear some more softer, though uneasy listening music. The songs “Gravelly mountains of the moon” and “MBF” are the heaviest songs on the album and reminds me a bit of Sonic Youth with Hendrix as lead guitarist. Furthermore, to repeat the first word of this review, a cool release, worthy to be checked out. Cosmicmasseur. |
