Review: CD

Dutch progressive Metal act Cirrha Niva (Legrand-v, lyrics; Rob Willemse-g; Carlo Heefer-g; Tommy White-d; and Daniel Huijben-b) returns with For Moments Never Done, which was recorded, mixed and mastered at Split Second Sound by Textures-member Jochem Jacobs, who did work as producer with bands as In-Quest, Intwine, Cypher, The Lucifer Principle or Kingfisher Sky before, and Bouke Visser (Outburst, Lennard, Kingfisher Sky, Guus Meeuwis etc). This newest full length studio recording lasts for forty seven minutes and is a new step in the band’s history. Still the ‘operatic’ elements are present, but more than before, the tracks are filled with a catchy heaviness and a pounding-rhythmic tempo. This album is much more powerful than, for example, Liaison De La Morte, yet it maintains the rather unique avant-garde approach Cirrha Niva are known for. The technical tracks are well-thought, going for both vocals and instruments, as well as both melodies and tempo, and the clean sound, yet not too over-produced, goes well with the mesmerizing atmosphere.
