CD REVIEW Ponamero Sundown

Band : Ponamero Sundown
Album Title : Stonerized
Label : Transubstans Records
Distributor : Clearspot
Release Date : 2009
Review : CD

Not only does Ponamero Sundown have a cool name, they also rock hard with a heavy stoner sound   that could be at home in any rock club around the world. Stonerizedis the CD's title and it's an apt, but rather stupid description of the band's sound. I liked what I heard here, the debut has a rawness to it that is appealing and unpretentious

Ponamero Sundown is from Sweden and their fuzzy guitar grind on Stonerized seems like it would transfer very well to a live performance. Although Ponamero Sundown doesn't add an entirely new flavor to a familiar genre, they do a more than fine job of it. The song writing is sharp and snappy and the performance is spot on.  My only complaint about this CD is that the vocals are pretty one-dimensional and change very little from track to track. Then again, that's a standard trait of the stoner genre.

While listening I find myself wishing for a little more variety between the songs as well as some more captivating melodies and chorusses, but in the end this is a righteous riffrock album that should be checked out by all those yearning for some good old fuzz, hard hitting stoner rock.
