The German Rough Silk is back. After some absence Ferdy Doernberg thought the time was right tot resurrect Rough Silk; He’s the only one that was part of the band earlier. All the others are new blood. ‘A New Beginning’ sounds cool so that’s already good news. Unfortunately Ferdy though it would be a good idea to sing all the songs himself. He can’t get rid of his German accent and that’s a pity. The records holds some heavy rocking tracks that remind us of Queen. It show in fast ones like ‘We’ve Got A File On You’ and ‘Temple Of Evil’ as in the ballades ‘We All Need Somthing To Hold On To In This Life’ and ‘A Song For Hilmer’. The last one is an ode to Hilmer Staake, the original guitar player who suddenly died last year. To bad the songs sound sometimes a bit forced. If you’re looking for originality you’re at the wrong address. A track like ‘Sierra Madre’ has a perfect building but you heard it a thousand times on other records. The only thing they don’t have short is the joy and will to rock. And that is, after all those years still the best spirit.
