CD REVIEW Infinite Horizon

Band: Infinite Horizon
Title: Soul Reducer
Label: Black Bards Entertainment
Distribution: Bertus
Release date: 02/10/2008 – Europe June 2009
Review: CD

Originally formed in 1997, Infinite Horizon has always had a constant line-up, with only one exception - a new drummer in 2000. The members played many live gigs in mean time, with bands as Hatesphere, Korpiklaani, Narnia or Annihilator, and all this makes these musicians in a nice equilibrium with each other.
Soul Reducer was recorded at the end of 2005 (at the Dreamlake Studio), but the release was postponed for a while. At summer 2007, Infinite Horizon signed to Black Bards Entertainment, a label specialised in Folk / Epic / Power / Heavy Metal, which made it possible for the band to release their new full length finally.
Soul Reducer lasts for forty seven minutes and goes on in the vein of Mind Passages (2004). This means that the Heavy Metal lacks of experiments or post-modern influences. On the contrary, the catchy songs are uncomplicated and recognisable, yet somewhat predictable at the same time. And what’s more, the song structures and performance is (too) clean and (too) safe. A few Iron Maiden-alike riffs, as well as some rougher parts (like the up-tempo track Facing Mr. Hyde), are pretty interesting, but Infinite Horizon in general sound more as a flatter version of Savatage or Symphony X, I think.

70/100
