Loch Vostok was formed in 2001 by drummer Teddy Möller after his previous band called Mayadome. Taking with him Sebastian Okupski on keyboard, and bassplayer Erik Grandin along with new additions Niklas Kupper on guitar and drummer Alvaro Svanerö, Möller switched role from drums to singer and guitarist for the new band. Unfortunately Grandin had to leave to the United States and was replaced by Tomas “Tym” JonssonMöller had played with previously in “Mellow Poetry”.
Fnially a steady line-up, Loch Vostok set out to record an album with producer Daniel Bergstrand in 2002. This was the release of Dark Logic. An album with lyrics based upon infamous serial killers such as Henry Lee Lucas, Andrei Chikatilo and Ed Gein.
After the albums release Sebastian Okupski left Loch Vostok to focus on other projects. His spot was filled by Andreas Lindahl of “Platitude” but he decided to leave the band after the recordings of the new album “Destruction Time Again!”.
After a final line up change and a couple of tours (one with King Diamond in 2006), the just released their latest cd called “Reveal No Secrets”.
It is a concept album about the loss of liberty in society today, and inspired by various conspiracy theories. You can hear it clearly in the vocals that these guys are trying to make a statement with it (e.g. what once was). It’s very melodic and commercial, so it’s a good way to get into the genre if you’re new. If you listen even carefully, you can hear something Iron Maiden in it (and that’s a big compliment). Downside to it all is that they stay with their formula and not dare to do something bold, so you may get bored towards the end of the album.
