Review: CD

Initially formed under the banner of The Ninth Gate, the German formation Neaera, named after a mythological Greek character, has proven its importance more than once. Every Neaera-album was stronger than the former one, and besides the band did create an own approach of Death Epic. The earlier years were characterised by, especially, Swedish, as well as American and German influences, and in a way this still is the case. However, the band now does easily equal its death metallic influential bands.
Omnicide - Creation Unleashed, which lasts for forty four minutes, goes strongly on in the vein of Armamentarium, yet again it made a huge progression. In contradiction to the early years, (almost) every Hardcore / Metalcore-element has disappeared, and more than once the whole is based on a rhythmic, thrashy and up-tempo form of melodic Death Metal. In combination with the epic sound and darkened atmosphere, this album can be found within the same spheres as Amon Amarth or Unleashed, which gets also proven by the old school approach, which is more present than ever before. Every single track is a monster. There are so many mentionable elements, among which the many (and great) tempo-changes, the strong duo-vocals (deep grunts and guttural screams), the pounding rhythm section and the proud riffs, but I’m almost speechless. I was enormously enthusiastic about Neaera’s former album, Armamentarium, but this time the band overpowers all! A killer-release!
