Band : Ogre Roaming the earth from outer space since 1999. Ogre play metal, combined with loads of 70s rock-influences, maybe a little spacey/proggy-like stuff here and there, and the result sounds amazing. Surprising twists and turns, hard-edged, angry vocals, dreamy parts, ferocious parts. The best thing about Plague Of The Planet is the delivery, which is completely convincing. With the music being delivered in such a forceful and convincing way any unoriginal elements, derived riffs is quickly forgiven. Ogre wear their inspirations (Sabbath, Priest, Cirith Ungol, Dust, Cactus, Budgie, Buffalo, Grand Funk, Rush, Pentagram…….) proudly on their sleeve and deliver their material in a way that is like a breath of fresh air. Plague of the Planet deserves at least your initial attention for one important reason: It’s a 37 minute song, divided into 11 suites and is full of alternating fast and slow sections, with most musical themes getting reprised somewhere along the way. Several parts still give me the same adrenaline rush as when I listened to them for the first time, several months ago and I don't see myself getting tired of the album any time soon. Plague Of The Planet feels like a song/album that has been stunningly crafted and perfected down to the very last note. Everything fits together and feels right. Creating a convincing concept album is no easy task, but Ogre completes it with defiance. The music and lyrics conjure vivid sci fi Mad Max/Metropolis images and even without lyrics it’s easy to get caught up in the apocalyptic story… 99/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
