Band: The Last Resort The Last Resort, a name synonymous with the Oi! Movement, both as a shop catering for those of the skinhead persuasion in the '80's and also as one of the iconic bands of that era whose reputation far outweighed their recorded output. This has resulted in the band being given a certain status despite only being together for little over a year between 1980 and 1982. But now they’re back with a new album to claim their spot in the Oi scene again. In my younger days I was found of punk bands like the sex pistols and the Misfits. All bands and songs witch had a meaning, an opinion, a certain vision on society. They all we’re straight forward about it. At that moment the only things you could hear or see on TV or radio were songs about getting dumped by your girlfriend, heartache,….the same stuff you see and hear still these days. But when I grew up, my vision changed and punkers became more die hard, they got more anti social, anti society, more anarchy, …. They became everything that they are fighting against. These British chaps new album called “you’ll never take us, Skinhead Anthems 2” just got in stores last month and brings old school punk like only the British can. Fast 3chord guitar power play, a drummer like a caveman beating everything in its past and vocals you can hardly understand. Real true punk like in the old days. Unfortunately the skinhead -isch theme that runs through the album is a turndown. Punk is about “fighting” against society and mainstream and freedom, but these guys do something completely different. 60/100 Jeroen. |
