German quintet War From A Harlot’s Mouth is not content with sticking to only one genre. Their latest album In Shoals, brings the first minute a hardcore sound; the next the are switching gears for a melodic, jazzy interlude. War From A Harlot’s Mouth throws everything they have
In Shoals is a variation of mathcore, hardcore breakdowns and jazz influences. The band makes these entire elements blend together well, and don’t stick to a linear songwriting structure.
War From A Harlot’s Mouth does stumble near the end of “In Shoals”. The band tries too much for their capabilities, trying their hand at an epic number in “Scully” that’s in the end disappointing, it leads to nowhere.
“In Shoals” takes a while to grasp, as it might not resonate much in the first few listens. When you give it some time will grow on you and make some new fans. War From A Harlot’s Mouth shows on this album that they are one step closer to becoming big in metal, but near the end you’ve got the feeling you heard it all before.
