Band: Chaoswave Chaoswave are a collective with members from both Denmark and Italy. After he left Sinphonia, Henrik ‘Guf’ Rangstrup moved towards Italy, where he met some same-minded musicians. After a well-received demo-tape and a first ‘official’ studio recording (The White Noise Within, 2006, released through DVS Records), both mixed by Jacob Hansen (Heaven Shall Burn, Aborted, Mastodon, Hatesphere, Illdisposed etc), the band toured around in Europe with bands as Testament, Entombed, Opeth and Hatesphere. Soon the band members started writing new songs for their second album and last year Chaoswave were able to sign the young yet promising German label Silverwolf. Dead Eye Dreaming was mixed by Andy LaRocque (guitar player of e.g. King Diamond and Mercyful Fate) and sort of breaths the same atmosphere as the former recordings. This means that Chaoswave’s music stands for a melodic and emotions-laden form of modern Thrash Metal with clean vocals, both male and female. Because of this combination, the band gets often compared to a perfect blend of Nevermore and Lacuna Coil. And indeed, the band’s 21st-century approach includes elements from both bands. Chaoswave, however, isn’t just a clone of those bands. The band does not sound renewing, but at least they try to add some personal elements to the Thrash-oriented riffs. Moreover they change a lot into tempo and sphere: sometimes integer and inter-personal, then faster and more straight-forward, sometimes melodic and atmospheric, or subtly complex and technical. Additional fact: the album features guest guitar leads by Steve Smyth, of Testament / Dragonlord / Nevermore / Vicious Rumors / The Esseness-fame. 78/100 Ivan Tibos. |
