Band: The Burning One of the strongest bands on Massacre Records must be the Danish formation The Burning. Two years after the self-titled debut album, they return with Rewakening, which was recorded at the Kohlekeller Studio (Crematory, Bluttaufe, Winds Of Torment, Agathodaimon, Flowing Tears etc) and lasts for forty seven minutes. The brutal, technical and groovy hybrid of (Post-) Thrash and down-tuned Death Metal comes with a massive sound and exhales a crushing lust to groove. The few breakdowns and tempo-changes (the tempo varies from very slow over mid-tempo to pretty fast) make these compositions even more interesting, which also goes for the variation between the songs. The sound isn’t too polished, and that adds an old school-feeling to the modern record. The tracks aren’t the most experimental ones, on the contrary, but on the other hand, what’s wrong with being inspired by Six Feet Under, Pantera, Sepultura, Testament, Slayer, Crowbar or Engine Of Pain? A month after Light This City’s Stormchaser, Rewakening can be considered the next interesting technical and melodic Thrash / Death recording from 2009. 80/100 Ivan Tibos. |
