Majestic Downfall are a solo-project by a certain Jacobo, playing almost all instruments, and being the main composer of both music and lyrics. He recorded Temple Of Guilt at the Inzonic Music Lab in late Summer last year, with assistance of Pastas (production, mix and mastering, as well as the keyboards) and session drummer Porncho. Temple Of Guilt lasts for almost an hour, even though it consists of only five tracks. Not that unusual, because this album stands for rather melancholic and melodic Doom-Death Metal. It’s nice to realise that those tracks don’t bore, even though the average duration is about eleven minutes. The tracks consist of different parts, varying in tempo and melody, and united into a cohesive approach of old style inspired supremacy. Jacobo adds some own elements to the sometimes predictable structures (melodic riffs, sound, rhythm), and even though I can never detect a copycat-alike element, the whole can not deny a modest heard-it-before mentality from time to time. However, the average quality (going for both compositions and performance) is satisfying and fulfils my expectations, bringing elements of early Theatre Of Tragedy, Winter, Mythological Cold Towers and old Paradise Lost together. Just well-played old school-influenced Doom-Death Metal with eye for detail and the injection of both introspective and external anger and sadness.
