It’s a good day for Belgium, especially for the metal scene. Except for one Dutchman, this band from Belgium called Spoil Engine got signed to Roadrunner records. Something that hasn’t happened in 20 years, so this is something definitely to look forward to.

It was at the end of 2004 that the band members found each other and quickly released a 4-track demo. This didn’t only earn them a final place in Aardschock’s Metal Bash, the got the chance to open up for Arch Enemy. Later on they released their first album and now in 2009 brings forth the release of “Antimatter”, their second album.
To be honest this is the first time I heard this band, but it was a very plesant surprise. If you would compare their sound with other bands to try explain how they sound, it would be a mix of Machine Head and disturbed. 2 different bands but this works so well without sounding like a rip off. Unfortunately there is one little downside. Vocalist Niek Tournois’s voice sounds overall the same throughout the whole album, not trying something different.

91/100
