The Swedish band Unanimated was originally founded in 1988 and it can be considered one of the most important (underground) Death Metal formations from Sweden during the first half of the nineties. The band split up in 1996, after the release of two highly appreciated full lengths, and the members went on with several other bands and projects, such as Krux, Damnation, Carbonized, Dismember, Murder Squad or Entombed, to name but a few.
Recently the band reformed with one goal: to continue the path they left more than twelve years ago. And it can’t be denied, but In The Light Of Darkness certainly goes on in the glorious vein of In The Forest Of The Dreaming Dead (1993) and Ancient God Of Evil (1995). During forty six minutes, the album spawns Black Metal-injected blaspheme Death Metal with blasting eruptions and slower pieces, a guitar-driven sound, a monstrous rhythm section and evil grunts. Clothed with a pounding sound, these muscled hymns exhale an atmosphere comparable to the Swedish scene during the early nineties, yet at the same time the heavy production is modern and well-balanced. The raw approach goes well with the melodic compositions, and everyone who liked both former Unanimated-albums will absolutely like this new epos too.
