Despised Icon is a Canadian deathcore band from Montreal, Quebec formed in 2002. Now in 2009 the Mounties are back with their new album Day Of Mourning, the follow up to 2007’s The Ills Of Modern Man, THE album that helped to push the deathcore sound into the metal limelight, with the album selling more than 2,000 copies in its first week. Two years in the making and a couple of line-up changes later, they are back stronger than ever, but will it be better or ….?

Speedy rhythms and growling guitars with even harsher vocals that make you shiver like a horror movie. The album starts off powerful with a couple of cool songs, but after a few, you’ll notice that it’s nothing new that the band has spewed forth and that the grindcore has been put aside for more death metal elements. Although a solid album, it’s not really innovating and more for the fans.

78/100
