Band : Sula Bassana The long, long awaited new album from one-man project Sula Bassana continues his exploration of all things colorful, spacey and psychedelic. The tracks are between 6 and 16 minutes long and take their time for mind bending haunting creations. Swirling space guitars meander along at a drugged X-File pace, “In space” has a cool flamenco flavor, given a unique character by Dave Schmidt’s guitar. “Lost in space” has a bit of a robotic Seid feel and there's plenty of strange and freaky sounds dashing about. The title track is the real corker here, a frantic ride into psych, complete with wild guitar solos and crashing rhythms, which slowly morphs into an atmospheric lushness that wouldn't have seemed out of place on an old Floyd album or a Porcupine Tree album. There is a surprising guest vocalist on “The night” and it's none other than Stefan Koglek himself of Colour Haze fame! After an electronic intro, the percussion of “Meteorritt” kicks in and launches into an repetitive electronic space jam that is similar to Circle and Oresund Space Collective. Another lengthy standout track is “Kosmokrator” a tripped out slab of space chaos that bubbles, drones and howls. This sucker builds slowly over its 16 minute length, culminating in a dense lysergic explosion. In summary, if you dig Pink Floyd, Hawkwind, Porcupine Tree, Tangerine Dream, space rock and electronic kraut, then you'll surely enjoy Sula Bassana’s music. 95/100 Cosmicmasseur.
