With ‘Skyforger’ are the Finnish lads of Amorphis continuing their path that they took two records ago when they took new front man Tomi Joutsen aboard. Again they serve us a sublime mix of enchanted guitars and keyboards that go along with the melodic voice of Joutsen. All this gets even more power when they pull out some grunts now and than and they remind us of their love for death metal like they used to make in the nineties with albums like ‘Tales Of A Thousand Lakes’. Of course there’s changed much over the years and you can hear that. The whole album is once again based on a Finnish saga but we’ll save you the details, just find out yourself and enjoy the record. Aren’t their any but? Of course there are. Although this is a nice album we could ask out loud if this is enough to stand out between all the other great albums that come out these days. On ‘Skyforger’ there’re ten great tracks but after a few spins none of those songs sticks out. The future will point out if we are right about this but we fear that Amorphis will be just one of the many bands in 2009 and at the end not that much people will remember ‘Skyforger’ as another milestone.
