Review : CD
Madina Lake is an American alternative rock band from Chicago, formed in 2005 by the twin brothers Nathan Leone (vocals) and Matthew Leone (bass), who both previously played in a band called The Blank Theory.
“Attics To Eden” is the follow-up album for the debut album “From Them, Through You, To You” that was released in 2007 on Roadrunner Records.
There’s a concept behind Madina Lake. Namely, the four youngsters have created their own world with characters living in the imaginary place called Madina Lake in the fifties. This metaphorical universe is going to be expanded on a third concept album and a book will also follow. Meanwhile, clues to the ongoing story can be found on the website of Madina Lake.
This concept is translated in poppy rock songs with passionate, enthusiastic singing and electronic accents. The twelve tracks are all infectious tunes with melodic choruses; sharp songs that undeniably beg for airplay. No wonder with the excellent production that David Bendeth (for instance Killswitch Engage, Paramore) accomplished.
References that I can quote when listening to Madina Lake, are for instance 30 Seconds To Mars, All American Rejects, Good Charlotte, Lost Prophets, Funeral For A Friend, The Rasmus and even a bit of Muse and Linkin Park.
“Attics To Eden” contains 12 songs and has a playing time of 37 minutes.
Highlights are the opening track and first single "Never Take Us Alive", the second single “Let’s Get Outta Here”, “Criminals”, “Through The Pain”, "Never Walk Alone", “Welcome To Oblivion”, “Silent Voices Kill”, “Friends & Lovers” (with no guitars) and the instrumental final track “Lila, The Divine Game”.
Hopefully, Madina Lake will undertake an European tour later this year, because I’m really looking forward to see this promising band live on stage
90/100
