These days, Heavy Metal can either be a gift or a curse.
On one side you have the “wow factor” you get with bands like iron maiden, Judas Priest, …. but on the other side you have those cliché bands who want to be like the great but just can’t cut it.
Unfortunately “Ram” is somewhere in the middle. These Swedish metal defenders got together in 1999 (666 upside down) and builded a reputation as an underground band.
In 2005 the released their official debut album called “Forced Entry” and now they return from Sweden to release “Lightbringer”.
The First thing you’ll notice when you hear the cd is a sort of “Mercyful Fate” vibe going on. The songs sound sinister and you have the feeling that they each tell a song, but it doesn’t touch or move you.
There are a couple song on the album that are remarkable like Ghost Pilot (MII) or Titan but it lacks originality.
Lightbringer sounds like you heard it al before but you can hear that Ram did their best, and when you do your best you can’t fail. And that makes this still a good album.
72/100
