Band : As I Lay Dying In the past, when a band was successfully they would al bring out at some point a live album of even a VHs-tape of a live show. Nowadays you don’t count unless you release a double dvd that gives the fans a concert and a road movie with lots of behind the scenes stuff. In some cases it’s fun to watch but unfortunately a lot of times it’s boring as fuck to see bands get drunk and do crazy shit. Others try to reconstruct their entire history with some blurry 8mm cam shots that have very poor quality. That’s a trap that the boy of As I Lay Dying did not step into. The figured it all out until the last detail and that’s one of the reasons they come up now with this amazing 3 disc dvd release. On the first one you get a look for over two hours how it all got started up till now. They did interviews with the current embers as well as all the other ex-members that where in the band, even the ones that only did a handful of shows. It gives us a very good look inside on how hard singer Tim Lambesis worked with his friends to get where he is now. They come from tiny BBQ-party to the stage of Wacken Open Air in front of 70.000 crazy maniacs. This is what we call class. On disc 2 we get nothing but live performances of the band. They did not choose for just on show to be filmed so we get to see that As I lay Dying goes for it night after night with very powerful metalcore that never loses the melody out of side. This is something the band should be proud of. On the 3rd disc they give us all the video’s they ever made and some nice extra’s that will please the die hard fans. ‘This Is Who We Are’ is one of the most honest releases that will come out this year. It’s a must for everybody that loves plan old metal in a modern setting. 90/100 Stef Maes. |
