It’s almost impossible to believe, but this year Napalm Death will celebrate their twenty seventh anniversary! With producer / engineer Russ Russell, Mark ‘Barney’ Greenway (v), Mitch Harris (g), Shane Embury (b) and Danny Herrera (d) created their fourteenth studio album, with duration of fifty heavy minutes. As from the opening track Strong-Arm on, this legendary quartet shows that they still are Grind-masters to the core! Ultra-fast guitar riffs are supported by an extremely brutal rhythm section (what a filthy bass sound, what a brutal riffs, what a maniacal drums), and they come with the most extreme grunts and screams ever created by mankind. Only once in a while, the band slows down a little, yet without ever losing any of their aggression or anger. The inspirational combination of deadly Blast Metal (in case it does exist officially), blasting Grindcore and grinding Death Metal is of a high quality – what else did you expect – and both sound and atmosphere are fitting well with these extreme compositions. Also the political / social / critical lyrics aren’t just infantile, yet well-thought and intelligent. …also as we’re used to, of course… Nevertheless I’m not that thrilled anymore this time. Napalm Death did prove its superiority in the past, and since then the band (almost) never lost any of their conviction or strength, yet some pieces might be too predictable from time to time. Time Waits For No Slave may not be Napalm Death’s ulterior album, but every fan or freak will be pleased, of course.
